Seven Saints of Talis
Heirburgh is a small village in the Reach, located south of Celestial Hills. It survives mainly through fishing and salt production, which it trades with various caravaneers for goods that they cannot produce themselves. Grox and goats also provide milk and meat, while some villagers grow vegetables in small gardens.
The village is surrounded on three sides by desert wastelands and the seas on the fourth. They are often threatened by giant ants, land-sharks, and the occasional sandworm. The village has been rebuilt several times in the last thousand years following violent weather or sandworm attacks. Raiders tend to leave the village alone, as it has nothing of any real value worth stealing.
Currently, the village of Heirburgh is comprised of a score of buildings, including one long-house that serves as a common meeting hall and traveler’s inn. Services available in the village are nearly non-existent, though they can salt meats, provide folk remedies for common ailments, and sharpen primitive weapons. The village is run by a council of elders, lead by a chieftain elected every five years by the council, and is egalitarian in structure. Labor is divided fairly between the villagers, based on age, ability and the needs of the village. The village is home to roughly 200 people, with many living on floating house-boats that also double as fishing vessels. However, none of the boats in possession of the village are capable of long journeys, setting out each morning with the tide and returning at night with the day’s catch.
