Heliotrop Sign

Unlike most Arcane Signs, this Sign requires both hands to be free in order to invoke. This sign, similar to Quen, protects the caster from Psychic, Warp and Force attacks directed at him or her. It affects only those attacks that manifest in some physical way, such as various beams, bolts, rays and so forth. It has no effect on area-of-effect powers (such as Inferno) or against mind-affecting powers (such as Trusting Aura). It can be used as a ward against gaze attacks, provided that these attacks require the creature casting it to focus on a single target (in this case, the Sign-caster). This power can be used as a Reaction.

When invoked, this Sign grants the caster the ability to completely stop and nullify any attack with the Psychic, Force, Warp or Daemonic Quality, provided these attacks are not physical in nature. That is, it can be used against a death-ray fired from a daemonic sword, but cannot be used against the blade of that same sword. The Heliotrop Sign grants the caster a WP test to nullify the effects of the attack, even if the attack normally does not permit one. If the attack normally grants such a resistance, this Sign adds +10 to the caster’s WP for every level of mastery (to a total of +30).
